The National Fire and Civil Emergency Preparedness Council (NFEC) celebrated its 25th Anniversary on the 9th of November 2011 at Orchard Hotel, Singapore.
The event was attended by over 500 guests compromising of stakeholders, past council members, friends, and supporters of the council’s mission. Graced by Guest-of-Honour, Deputy Prime Minister, Teo Chee Hean, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs, the evening saw the unveiling of the NFEC 25th Anniversary Commemorative Book and the presentation of Fire Safety awards.
The commemorative book entitled ‘The Story of NFEC. To Ready a Nation’ encompassed 25 years of history; it illustrates how the council remained nimble, adaptable and progressive over the years. Readers will get a perspective of the extensive and diverse means of community partnership and a glimpse of the men and women who have contributed significantly to the promotion of fire safety awareness and emergency preparedness in Singapore.
The biennial Fire Safety Awards were presented to at least 80 organisations in recognition for their commitment to fire safety. The award serves to inculcate greater awareness on fire safety in buildings and also recognises organisations for their commitments to fire safety.
It was an evening of celebration as board members caught up with the previous members and organisations were congratulated on receiving the Fire Safety Award.
Mr Alan Loh, NFEC Chairman mentioned in the commemorative book.
‘In celebrating NFEC Silver Jubilee, I can see that our work for the past 25 years has affirmed our sense of identity, purpose and contribution to Singapore. The firm foundation put in place gives me renewed confidence that working hand in hand with the community and partners such as the Singapore Civil Defence Force, the NFEC will continue our efforts to make Singapore safe and secure’
