Fire extinguishers increase the household level of emergency preparedness by helping residents cope with small incipents fire. While it is not mandatory to have a fire extinguisher at home in Singapore, many are realizing the benefits of having at least one in their home. In addition to having a fire extinguisher, it is critical to note that the maintenance of these extinguishers are equally important to ensure they are operational should the need arise to use them.
Under the Singapore Standard, Code of Practice 55, Use and Maintenance of Portable Fire Extinguishers, the owner or occupant of a property is responsible for the inspection and maintenance of the fire extinguishers installed at the premise. This is to ensure that they are in good working order.
